2017 Ford Focus RS Ecoboost , the Bargain of the Century


With out further ado , here's the new Ford Focus RS Ecoboost . You might be familiar with the Ecoboost technology offered by the American automaker , it genuinely conveyed a new perspective of power , efficiancy and fuel economy for Fiestas , Mustangs and all the pick-up trucks family ,the F150 , F250 and the F350 .

Ford mounted their latest version of Focus with an Ecoboost engine that propells the car giving it more power and more torque than its relative , the Ford ST . I personnally think that Ford made a huge mistake by providing the RS after the ST because it did compromise the ST sales worldwide in favour of the RS . We will get to the engine's specifications in about a minute but you have to halt for a moment and bolster your eyes with the bespoken design of the RS . It may look like you tuned your grandmother's Focus but Ford did an outstanding job to make the car more aerodynamic . The front grill is more aggresive and challenging but it is functional at the same time because the upper section cools the radiator and the lower section cools the intercooler so that the engine work as efficiant as a sports car .


The RS , like the ST , belongs to the Performance family introduced by Ford which includes the Fiesta ST , Focus ST , the RS and their latest definition of a hypercar , the Ford GT . The backend of the RS is as functional as the frontend , the massive spoiler meant for better grip and handling , the rear diffuser keeps the car steady at high speeds and the giant exhausts perform what can only be described as an intoxicating and virulent music .


Now the engine , as been said , the RS is mounted with a 2.3 liter Ecoboost Turbocharged engine . it Produces 350 horsepowers at 6000 rotations per minute and 350 ft-lb starting from 3500 rpm (That is a lot for a hatchback ) . The Focus RS is surely one of the most powerful cars in its segment and for almost 39.000 dollars you can buy it with no regrets because it is as well one of the cheapest comapring to the more expansive Golf R or the WRX STI . You can manage this amount of power through its big braking disks and by the way the front wheels has the bigger disks 13 inches comparing to 10 inches at the back .


The focus has 4 driving modes that can be monitored  through the magical button entitled " DRIVE MODE . The first is "Normal" , for normal people of course with a less hard suspension and smooth ride , the second mode is "Sport " , it gives you faster transition between speeds through the manual 6 speed gearbox ( the only choice you get  from Ford ) and reach higher rpm faster than normal .
The thrid mode is "Track" , it give the chance to awaken the 350 monster with its full potentials , stiffer suspension and it allows to control the braking system more effectively as if you were at LeMans 24h . The last driving mode is "Drift " , yes drift , I can't recall any car that offers this option for consumers .

The drift mode is what characterizes the RS , most hothatches provide all wheel drive system but the big portion of power is propelling the front wheels which is the case of the Golf R , not the RS because the biggest amount of torque is being fed to the rear massive wheels and with a high developed torque vectoring system similar to the one you can get form a Porsche GT3 RS .
There is another hidden driving mode of the RS and it is simple to activate , first you set the driving mode " Track " then you press the button to control the rigidity of  suspension and activate the Electronic Stability program . There you go , track mode acceleration with the softness of the normal mode suspension !!


The set back of this car is definetly the interior , it is a bit dull and gives the impression of a normal family hatchback , Ford completely misplaced the concept of the interior of a performance car .    
A part from some RS stiching thrown all over  the place there is nothing to remind you that you are driving a car that gives you "Drifting mode " as standard , well apart from the rambling noise of the exhausts .

This car can be the bargain of the century indeed , the only point that needs to be addressed is the interior , maybe they can have a peak on what Mercedes are doing with their AMGs for inspiration .
