Hyundai i30 N ,Why A Hot Hatch ?
Unlike its twin sister Kia , Hyundai does have some sporting pedigree and to be specific I should say the World Rally Championship . The name of the Korean manufacturer been present in the competition since 1998 and it was run by a British company called Motor Sport Development , they competed with the Accent WRC and their standings were not that encouraging because they were battling against giants like Peugeot , Mitsubishi and others but Hyundai Motorsport decided to proceed with following their dreams .
Now the motorsport division or as it is called Hyundai Shell World Rally Team is based in Germany are doing very good in comparison to their debut 20 years ago with a second place and 237 points in total of the championship so far . People runing the Motorsport division in Germany thought that this is the right moment to unveil a car that celebrates their legacy and to cement their name among other motorsport divisons by making a road going car with some tweaks taken from their Rally car . So they gave us the Hyundai i30 N .
To be honest I have mixed feelings about this car , the i30 N looks as if it wants to be sporty , mean and agressive but in a preserved manner . Picture it as the librarian you knew in college that is waiting for a chance to unleash her untamed self and yet it decides to tell you that you have to be quiet because you are disturbing others . The car looks aggressive in the front and at the back but adding few red lines on the diffusers and on the sides will not give it that immature looks that you get it in a Focus RS or Civic .
Hyundai says that the letter N stands for their research centre in Namyang were it was initially drafted and at the same time it refers to a the Nurburgring in Germany were it was developed .The car has a tiny rear spoiler and microscopic exhausts , but some how they thought of fitting it with P Zero tyres , 18 inches as standard and 19 inches for the perfromnce package
The i30 N uses a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine that develops 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque these specifications are standard but you can upgrade to the performance package with 275 hp and a 0.1 seconds faster than a Golf GTI . The car has electronic LSD , revolutions matching system like the Civic and its propelled by a 6 speed manual with a launch control system to maximize the amount of "Fun" that you get from the letter N . There are four different driving mode , Eco , Normal , Sport and N but the driver can create another mode called N Custom in which he chooses to turn everthing of and genuinely take the wheel .
If you are familiar with my blogs you probably have noticed that I don't pay much interest to the interior and I think that Hyundai did the same with the i30 N because it looks very dull and parctical which is not great for a sporting perofmance car .
I don't think that Hyundai did a proper job with the i30 , if they want to compete with the giants they need to unleash their untamed perception of the word sporty that is why I think that there future cars need to look like this :
