Renault Zoe E-Sport , The Reason To Fancy Electric Cars


This is the Renault Zoe E-Sport , a small hatch that can only drive you to conduct a scrutiny or in my case an extensive investigation to catch up with the latest technology that is being developed by auto makers . The car was introduced at the 2017 Geneva motor show and it is indeed a great looking creature from Renault . The futuristic sharp design give the car great aerodinamics , the satin blue with the loud lively yellow lines which are inspired from the Formula E racing car is spot on and that made me literally fall in love with it , I genuinely cannot keep my eyes of it ! 

In my opinion the use of electric engine is inevitable . We can all agree on this because car makers like Prosche, McLaren , BMW and the newly emerging Rimac are all using these small weight savers. I remember when Ferrari introduced LaFerrari , they said that the electric motor in it was only meant to asses the combustion unit and that they are not interested in Hybrid cars like the 918 and the P1 from Porsche and McLaren respectively. But the rise of the induction engine which is being developed for the past 10 or 15 years compells Ferrari to go back to their drawing boards and come up with a creation that might cope with the storming technologies but that doesn't necessarly mean that Ferraris aren't loaded with High Tech computers that surley has improved Ferrari over the years . 




When I started reading about this car I felt like a neanderthal man and that might prove that Darwin was write about his theory , I was and still fascinated by the mechanism of the combustion engine , but it is from 20th century . The technology behind these types of vehicles and not only Tesla , sets the pace for the near future of the automotive industries , and fellas I think that we need to step out of our cages . 

The Zoe for instance showcases unbelievable figures that delivers massive power regarding the fact that this car has the size of a hamster , and what is really impressive is how they managed to work on all these aerodynamic cuts , inlets and diffusers in a small surface to give it that sporty and mean looks .


The car sits on 20 inch wheels because it is wider than the normal Zoe that is being produced and sold in the European market , but let me give you some really important figures to understand what this car is capable of . As a start this car has 2 electric motor that produce 460 hp that is the same power you get from a Jaguar XJ 220 hp and 640 Nm of torque that mean 320 Nm coming from each engine and that is 100 Nm more than the V10 Audi R8 !! 

The Zoe E-Sport travels from 0 to 62 mph in  3.2 seconds a second slower than the 1.9 million £ Lamborghini Sesto Elemento !! Although the car weighs 1450 kilograms which a lot for a small hatch back partly because the two engines are powered by 450 kilos of lithium the same component that is powering pretty much everything but the use of Kevlar and carbon fiber compensates the weight's effect on performance . It is important to mention that the Zoe E-Sport comes with 4 wheel drive as standard but you get to control the power trasnfered to each wheel so you can get more power at the back and have the joy of a life time . 


As for the interior and because this is a concept , a squared steering wheel and digital gage cluster is the only thing you can get your hands on in the Zoe and that reminds me and quote " brutal simplicity " of the Sesto Elemento . The car has a 256 miles range from the ZE 40 battery if you are treating the car like a lady , but when you get the hammer down for maximum performance the range drops drastically and for some commercial reasons Renault won't reveal that number . 
You might say that range is the kryptonite of these cars which is true to an extent , but if you are familiar with the new Formula E you probably know that drivers change cars during race too because of range .


Speaking of Formula E , let get a bit technical and give you some useful information about how these machines work . To be honest I will not go into all the technical witchcraft but here's some facts:
The car before you is Renault ' Sport division Formula E car , the machine has done a very good job and Renault seems to be taking over the championship quite like Alfa Romeo in Formula One in the 20 th century .

The components propelling the car are a battery , a motor , an inverter and transmission . The battery on this machine can power up a house for two years , imagine that amount of power is being fed to one signle electric motor . The inverter contains power switch to control the electric current in 10.000 p/second that is being fed to the motor to monitor the torque and power of each wheel . 

Now the engine , there are multiple models used by each team but they all use the same concept which contains a rotor ( the moving part ) and the stator that contains the copper wires . The Zoe E-Sport for instance uses the same technology , the rotor which contains a permanent magnet is rotated with the electric current goes through the stator by changing its magnetic poles which causes it to rotate .

It is fair to say that the electric motors are taking over the market by their immense instant power delivery   , but I am old fashioned and can only be turned on by a V12 .
