2018 TVR Griffith , Utter Blasphemy
This is the recently released TVR Griffith , it looks quite vigorous and forceful as expected from the British brand . The company decided to resurrect the Griffith name through their newly signed partnership with Gordon Murry design and Cosworth . In other words you get a design from the man who pictured the ultimate Mclaren of all time , the F1 and an engine developed not by engineers but with legacy and heritage in the automotive industry .
Let us start by the name , Griffith . It is a male given name that derives from Griffin , a mythical creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion and that to put emphasis on their philosophy that combines performance with agility and extreme looks .
The company was founded by a British man called Travor Wilkinson in 1947 amid the second world war , he kept managing the company until he passed in 1962 then Martin Lielly from 1965 until 1981 , the company then was acquired by the British engineer and businessman Peter Wheeler who made his fortune from selling equippments for oil companies until TVR was bought in 2004 by a young Russian millionaire called Nikolai Smolenski the son of a Russian bank owner . The British company was known for its two seater fiber glass small cars with massive engines mounted in the front like the M series , S Series , 300 S , the Vixen , the Tuscan and many others over the years .
The new TVR comes after a decade since they released their last model the Sagaris in 2006 .
Unlike the Griffith , the Sagaris looked as if it was designed by a psycopath with its unususal lines and the fact that it didn't have no basic safety features like an airbag let alone the fact that it didn't have ABS . This one though looks more civilized in the front with a big smile and headlights borrowed from a Mclaren 720 , still there are some basic lines that defined the TVR over the decades that are still clear to us in the bonet and from the headlights all the way to the back .
The car sits on Avon tyres , 19 inches in front and 20 inches at the back , the car is also fully equipped with the basic technological features of any modern sports car like ABS traction control which seems a bit blasphemous in regards to their pervious model which was under the 50.000 £ mark and that was the cheapest way to have a V8 , now the Griffith costs 90.000 £ .
What we loved the most about the new TVR , apart from the side pipes , is the fact that it has a naturally aspirated traditional V8 that develops 500 hp from its quad-cam 5.0 liter cylinders engine , since the car weighs 1200 kilos , the power per weight ratio is 400 hp/ tonne and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 4.0 seconds and that puts it with out doubt in the sports cars territory .The car is equipped with a 6 speed manual transmisson from Tremec and can reach a maximum speed of 200 mph
The car as previously mentioned , is designed by Gordon Murry and the results are impressive . A perfect distribution between the two ends and iStream technology that can be explained in short by , more regidity and less structural complication with the introduction of carbon fiber .
We have some thoughts about the interior of the Griffith , the most obvious one is that it looks like the one you usually get in a Mclaren , well apart from the manual gear stick shift . Another thing to point out is that you get a digital display screen and believe it or not , Apple carplay and Alcantara . These enhancement can be understood though , because people from TVR wants it to be rather alluring than just thrilling .
Here's a proof that the interior was inspired from the 720 with the long infotainment system with the long vertical screen and the round buttons beneath it , but it is fair to say that plainly have done a massive job to make it attractive and practical which is different comparing to its previous Sagaris .
To sum up , the Griffith is that particular friend of yours that used to drink barrels of beer and smoke tons of marijuana and party till dawn and now he decided to get a job and be more focused on reaching his goals in life wearing a suit and tie with a brief case in his hand because he means business .
